Excerpts from the Memorandum of Association of the Cleft-Children International Professor Hermann Sailer foundation, Nov. 2005
The Association is established to promote the range of treatments available for patients with cleft lip and/or palate and other craniofacial abnormalities, and to support their integration into society, as well as to undertake substantial consistent public education campaigns with the intention of promoting the necessary public awareness and understanding of the condition and the lives of those who live with it. The exchange of ideas and experience is intended to reach out across the whole word, though chiefly developing countries, newly industrialised countries, and Germany.
The objects of the Association shall be achieved through the following:
a)
The active promotion and financial backing of humanitarian medical projects planned, undertaken or supported by Cleft-
The following aid projects shall be given primary attention:
To provide financial and technical support and promotion of the education, training and continuing professional development of doctors and medical staff.
To provide technical, organisational and financial support to the development of an appropriate technical infrastructure in the medical treatment and research centres and other medical institutions.
To make it possible for patients to be treated free of charge or at reduced rates in specialist regional centres.
To promote medical standards and training in technical operating procedures.
To promote and support of research and preventative measures.
To enable the exchange of ideas and experience between specialists from different disciplines, e.g. by supporting regional or international multidisciplinary congresses and setting up and publishing databases and information systems on the internet.
To establish an international network of affiliated “Centres of Excellence”.
b)
To add to medical knowledge concerning human deformities and to the general interest in the work on and with cleft patients using campaigns of various kinds, though chiefly via publications in all relevant media.
c)
The Association is entitled to take a share in or enter into an agreement with other charitable organisations or individual projects undertaken by such organisations, or to provide support to such organisations by way of donations within the context of §58, Para 2 of the Swiss Revenue Ordinance (Abgabeordnung) in order to further the objects of the Association.
